Modern addiction

This week I would like to recommend you a second hand furniture store close to Kollwitzplatz in Berlin. The ‘Modern design junkies’ is selling design and vintage furniture, as well as lamps and accessories.

From the outside the store looks relatively inconspicuous….but if you go inside the time seems to have stopped! What you will find there will make the heart of any vintage lover beat faster!

It holds an incredible selection of well choosen originals from the 60ies up to the 80ies.

And contrary to expectations – if you don’t find what you are searching for, the well connected owner will help to organize the piece you were always dreaming of!

Besides furniture you can also get amazing second hand art. It’s just a paradise for everybody who loves to browse through relicts of bygone times.Underneath you can find a small collection of the pieces that are currently available in the shop.

The dining table from Piet Hein Eek is made of old scrapwood and was already exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York as well as at the Furniture Fair in Italy/Milan and at Cïbone in Tokyo.

The Lounge chair (with ottoman) from Charles Eames belongs to the most known classics of the modern furniture history and is offering a big seating accommodation combining an ultimate comfort with a high quality material.

The Flowerpot lamp is a design classic. The high recognition effect comes from the extraordinary diffuser out of  two hemispherical shapes located opposite to each other.

Older is better!

Hey there!
The pieces of Strawser + Smith, located in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood, combine the old materials and some pretty  unusual new shapes.
My favorite pieces are the console table and  the space-age curvilinear coffee table below.
So cool! You can check out the full collection online or in their shop in Brooklyn.

This chair is a real eye candy! The helicopter fabric-print is amazing. I’m not into helicoptors, but it’s just captivating!

I just think that the space looks incredible, and the stuff they have looks even better. Buy yourself a ticket to New York or just go to the online shop, and you’ll for sure find a new amazing piece for your home !

Surfers Lifestyle

The new place to be for surfer and Bulli owner

Recently there’s an extra fresh breeze blowing at St. Peter-Ording. A new beach hotel opened up this year directly at the dike.

The Beach Motel is a new hotel concept that offers everything that makes a surfer’s heart beat faster. With it’s rotating wooden veranda and the generous windows it reminds one of the beach houses at the U.S. East Coast.

It consists of three buildings and is dedicated to all those who have the desire for a “different” hotel experience.

Everyone who likes to be still spoiled even after a great and sunny day at the beach can choose between 104 wonderful rooms and suites – all individually designed.
Whether you are a sports freak or a design friend, the Beach Motel is ideal for all that just want to relax in a lovely atmosphere with a nordic note.
You can chill out properly at the beautiful lounge areas with the nice furniture made of warm and cozy materials like different kinds of wood and used – looking leather. A film screening in a private cinema or the first Dove Spa in worldwide hotels will also help you to free your mind!

On top of that the sea is right in front of your nose. What more could you want?!

And by the way: there are well-known cooperation partners on board who contributed their creative ideas to the interior of the rooms and the lounge. Quiksilver, Fat Boy, Fritz Kola, Jever, Mini and Hamburg’s water initiative Viva con Agua designed their own suites and also participated partly in design of other rooms by adding individual and stylish accessories like old surfboards or cozy bean bags.

If you are a surfer at heart you should definately go and check out this great new place at the North Sea Coast!

Wiid Design

Hey there!
This week I would like to introduce you to ‘Wiid Design‘ – a great product designer from Cape Town.

He designs durable products that are truly unique and timeless beautiful.
All products incorporate handmade elements and materials like cork, concrete, terracotta,
felt, leather, wood, porcelain, cast iron and stainless steel.

Wooden benches

These benches are designed for in- and outdoors.
They are made of Solid American Ashand. The legs are hand-made and produced with the use of Cast Iron.

Modern dark and natural cork side table
Are you looking for a coffee table, but some really unique one? Why not come across a material you never thought you would see outside of a wine bottle?
How cool would a cork table be? They are strong and durable enough to handle everything from your collection of remotes and magazines to someone sitting on it. Plus, you could even use it as a weird modern 360 degree message corkboard.

Table ware
These ceramic and cork bowls by Wiid Design serve not only hot, cold, dry and wet food, but if used in conjunction, they also conserve heat.

Vintage Cork lamp
The lamp is made of cork, which allows notes to be pinned to it. As if the simple lamp isn’t gorgeous enough on its own, the pins create tiny holes in the cork every time a memo goes up. These holes make a unique pattern in the cork for the light to shine through.
